How big is our practice group?
The International Practice Group includes lawyers from each department in the firm. More than 30 partners and 35 associates participate in the Group's activities.

What do we do?
There are international aspects to every segment of Ropes & Gray's practice from corporate transactions, finance and tax planning, to international litigation and commercial arbitration. We represent both non-US clients with respect to their operations in the United States as well as domestic clients doing business outside the country. In the past year the Internal Group has helped lead the opening of our Tokyo office, our first office outside of the United States, and is assisting the firm in looking at other opportunities. The firm also maintains a conference center in London.  Because we practice only U.S. law, our corresponding relationships with local firms throughout the world help assure that Ropes & Gray's clients receive responsive, high quality legal services wherever they are needed. More than 25 of our associates are members of our 22 International Practice Group "Country Desk" helping to keep the firm current on legal developments in particular jurisdictions. Many of them have language skills that facilitate this activity.

What have we done lately?

  • Ropes & Gray represented a Danish medical device company in its sale of certain intellectual property assets related to biopsy devices. Ropes & Gray effectuated the sale of such assets and negotiated an additional agreement whereby our Danish client remained on as the buyer's exclusive manufacturer for such biopsy devices. • Ropes & Gray represents numerous clients having global operations. As a result, associates in other practice groups participate in assignments involving foreign aspects. For a description of the experiences of three associates, click here.
